Whale Tales Season 31:W7

Every day this week we were able to witness some incredible behaviors due to our experienced tender drivers and cetacean specialists. Challenger was able to keep up to a rowdy group with eight individual whales, the largest we have seen this season. The rowdy group travelled quickly and performed aggressive maneuvers in pursuit of gaining the closest position to the female.

Early one morning this week we woke up to the sight of two adult humpbacks hanging around the TCEXII. They came up to blow just beside the vessel then would disappear underneath, spy hop on the other side and disappear again below the surface.

The Aquatics crew buzzes about the boat getting snacks prepared for the day while taking notice of whale blows reflected in the sunrise. When 8:30 am rolls around it’s time for the first tender to take off. “LUCKY COOKIES!” shouts one of the crew members, “todays flavor, oatmeal and cranberry”. Jo has baked us fresh cookies for our day’s outing. Time to look for whales.

What a variety of behaviors and weather for our second week on the Silver Bank! We discovered dancers, singers and rowdy groups. We endured wind, sunny days and rainy days. The water during our second day on the Silver Bank was a little rough due to the high winds but this didn’t stop us from going out and finding some whales to join.
